GREENSBORO, NC – January 24, 2022 – Qorvo® (Nasdaq:QRVO), a leading provider of innovative RF solutions that connect the world, today announced a motor control reference design that features the PAC5556 intelligent motor controller with Qorvo’s new silicon carbide (SiC) FETs into a proof of concept System-on-a-Chip (SoC) to drive applications up to 3000w.
David Briggs, Qorvo senior director of Programmable Power Management, said, “The development of this reference design illustrates Qorvo’s ability to rapidly integrate, innovate and deliver high-value intelligent power solutions for more power-efficient end products. This design enables consumer advantages like sleeker and smaller solutions, reduced noise levels, extended service life and reduced power consumption.”
Qorvo’s PAC5556 is an intelligent integrated motor controller that includes Qorvo’s new silicon carbide advanced cascode technology from recently acquired United Silicon Carbide (UnitedSiC). This small form factor solution integrates five building blocks (DC/SC, LDO, MCU, Gate Driver and Amp) and external power switches to form the three-phase inverter with external SiC FETs. Silicon carbide FETs are ideal for high power consumption electronic devices such as dishwashers, microwaves, blenders, vacuums, power tools and HVAC systems. Qorvo’s reference design reduces external components, enables higher reliability and reduces BOM cost. This integrated PAC and silicon carbide FET solution enables motor control applications with advantages in noise, service life, miniaturization and reliability.
Qorvo’s power management products charge, power and control a wide range of industrial, commercial and consumer applications. This video demonstrates how Qorvo’s PAC5556 and new UnitedSiC FETs align to create a highly integrated motor control solution.
