When utility power is lost, Uninterruptable Power Systems (UPS) provide reliable back-up power allowing end equipment to either keep running for specific durations or safely shut-down without any loss of mission critical data or functionality. A typical UPS involves multiple power conversion blocks such as an AC-DC front-end power converter, a DC-AC power inverter and a DC-DC battery charger that interfaces with a 12V, 48V or high-voltage battery. Designers of UPS units are faced with challenges of reducing cost & size while delivering high power density & surge power capability. Qorvo's SiC FETs and Schottky diodes offer fast switching speed, excellent reverse recovery and low power losses which allows designers to realize high-frequency power converters enabling reduction in overall size and cost.
